When high scoring class of 2018 forward Nadia Berardelli recently announced her verbal commitment to the Millersville University Field Hockey program she meant it.
“I absolutely love everything about the school and the team. I had an instant connection with Coach Behrens on the phone when we first spoke back in December and later with Coach Baillee on my visit to campus. Conversations were so easy it felt like we already knew each other.”
The Millersville Field Hockey program is among the best nationally in Division 2. The Marauders have played in 4 straight conference championship games and 4 consecutive NCAA tournaments highlighted by winning the 2014 National Championship. Last season they brought home a PSAC Title and reached the Final Four.
Berardelli, a highly ranked student in her class at Delsea Regional High School in New Jersey, felt comfortable at Millersville academically as well. “Millersville has so much to offer with a variety of majors, so I am excited to explore my options before just choosing one.”
Berardelli also had a lot of options in the recruiting process with her inRecruit page attracting various college coaches including several Division 1 programs.
“Being able to see all of the interested colleges checking out my page was a great feeling. I was so excited when the first school hit my page knowing that one day I would choose one of them. inRecruit was one of the biggest reasons I had the exposure. Thank you so much.”
To help her navigate the recruiting process Nadia had her father Paul Berardelli, a football standout at Villanova University during his college years, by her side.
“Traveling with Nadia, having wonderful conversations about her next 4 years and beyond as well as meeting some great coaches was enjoyable. It was almost surreal to see the amount of interest Nadia generated every time we sent out a video or an update on an accomplishment. Some big time schools kept coming back to check out her page. She wouldn’t be in this position right now with inRecruit and all of its resources.”
The travel mentioned above includes Nadia’s tournament trips with Xplosive Hockey Club and visits to various schools including another high level D2 program at East Stroudsburg, Shippensburg and Slippery Rock.
Nadia can now set her sights on her senior year at Delsea, which was another reason she felt great about making her recruiting decision now. Berardelli is on track for 100 career goals after netting 71 combined in her first two varsity seasons. This broke the school’s single season and career all time scoring records while helping the Crusaders reach the South Jersey Group 2 championship game in back to back years.
