Field Hockey Midfield
Tamlin Unruh, a class of 2017 midfielder out of Moorestown High School in New Jersey, has committed to the field hockey program at Gettysburg College.
After visiting over 20 colleges Unruh decided, “Although I could see myself at other great schools that showed interest, I chose Gettysburg as the college that will give me the best chance to thrive as both an athlete and a student. After visits, clinics and overnights at most of my top schools, I went to a Spring prospect clinic at Gettysburg College. I loved the campus, the energy of the team, and the upbeat attitude of Coach Jordan. I went back for an academic visit in July and met a professor from the Health Sciences department, who really sold me on their program.”
“I signed up with inRecruit just before leaving for the NFHCA National Hockey Festival in California and by the time I got home, I was hearing from coaches who saw Team Xplosive play and wanted to see more of me. Once my highlight reel from Winter Escape went up on inRecruit, coaches were initiating contact with me! There were so many emails to answer and clinics to keep track of, I was glad to have a tool to manage it all so I didn’t miss out on opportunities.”
Unruh’s pursuit of playing field hockey at the collegiate level was kicked into high gear during the Fall of her Junior year of high school when she started training with Xplosive Hockey Club. “I knew I was where I was supposed to be. The coaches were both demanding and supportive with skill training, athletic fitness and the recruitment process.”
Through Xplosive’s partnership with inRecruit, Unruh began posting videos to her inRecruit.com athlete page and contacted college coaches to let them know where she’d be playing and express interest in their programs.
Tamlin’s mother Cheryl reflected on her daughter’s recruiting process. “I highly recommend inRecruit as a tool for high school athletes who are determined to play college sports and want maximum exposure to college coaches with minimal stress. During her Junior year, she spent most of her weekends practicing with Team Xplosive, playing in showcases and attending field hockey clinics at colleges all over the East Coast. We were looking for the sweet spot, a collegiate field hockey experience that would challenge her to grow and improve as an athlete while valuing her as an impact player.
